Fall time bass fishing with my kids

Despite my extremely busy work schedule, I was put on babysitting duty by the "big boss" with the kids being off school, so I took them fishing for a short 3 hour outing. With the quickly cooling water temps, I figured chasing bass and panfish would be the most efficient and productive use of our short window.

We got started around 10:30 AM, just after the thick morning fog had cleared. Avi hooked a pike on his first cast. The pike went straight into the weeds. After horsing it out, we noticed that it had completely swallowed his square billed crankbait. Avi didn't have a leader tied on, but we managed to land the pike. It cut the line as soon as I got it on shore. The pike was already bleeding badly before we landed it, but I managed to get the hooks out without much more damage.

Didn't take long for Eli to catch his first bass of the day on a spinnerbait:

The spinnerbait proved to be the hot lure, Eli caught a good 15 more bass or so, up to about 1.5 lbs. Not too shabby for a 6 year old.

Chaya joined in on the action using worms to catch panfish, she managed to catch a nice bluegill sunfish hile Eli was fighting one of his bass. Gotta love double headers...

After catching more bluegills, Chaya got started on perch:

She eventually caught her first bass on a worm as well, but refused to take a picture with it for some reason. I guess she got a bit camera shy.

Final tally for the days was about 20 largemouth bass, 15-20 bluegill and perch, 1 pike, and 3 very happy kids!

Yes, season is open until March in most areas around Montreal, then it closes from April to mid June.
